Admission Criteria
The Mental Retardation Division serves individuals who reside in Essex, Gloucester, King and Queen, King William, Lancaster, Mathews, Middlesex, Northumberland, Richmond, and Westmoreland Counties. To qualify to receive services, an individual must have mental retardation as defined in the Code of Virginia: Substantial sub-average general intellectual functioning which originates during the developmental period and is associated with impairment in adaptive behavior A child under the age of six may be considered to have mental retardation as defined by the Code of Virginia if there is documented evidence of cognitive and adaptive developmental delay or the presence of a syndrome typically associated with mental retardation. Individuals with mental retardation and children under six years of age who are at developmental risk and who are receiving Mental Retardation Waiver services must also be receiving Targeted Case Management services during the months that Mental Retardation Waiver services are received. |
